The tall panelled backs feature vertical detailing, while the broad slab-style sides and gently shaped lower edges give the benches a particularly graphic architectural appearance.

Both retain their fitted seat cushions, upholstered in a colourful repeating geometric triangle fabric with shades of red, green, mustard, blue, black and cream. Against the white frames, the fabric gives the pair a brilliant 1990s Memphis / postmodern feel.

The different widths make them especially useful together: the larger example works well as a compact two-seater bench, while the smaller version makes an unusual single-seat chair or hallway bench.

Details

Vintage pair of church / chapel pew benches

Dating from approximately the 1990s

One large two-seat bench and one smaller single bench

White painted/manufactured construction

Tall panelled backrests

Architectural slab-style sides

Colourful geometric upholstered cushions

Removable seat cushions

Matching design in two different sizes

Unusual postmodern / Memphis-influenced appearance

Ideal as hallway, dining, kitchen or occasional seating

Particularly characterful statement pieces

Dimensions

Large Bench

Width: 107 cm

Depth: 51 cm

Height: 85 cm

Seat height: 48 cm

Small Bench

Width: 70 cm

Condition

Good vintage condition with signs of previous use consistent with age.

There are various small marks, scuffs and areas of wear to the white finish, along with visible fixing holes to the sides from their previous installation or configuration.
