The lamp fitting rises discreetly from the animal’s back, allowing the carving itself to remain the dominant feature of the design.

The antelope has a particularly elegant silhouette, with elongated legs, exaggerated horns and simplified geometric detailing typical of mid-century African decorative carving. The deep rosewood tones and visible grain give the piece warmth and depth, while the sculptural form means it works just as effectively as a decorative object when unlit.

An unusual combination of African folk art, mid-century lighting and hand-carved sculpture, and a great statement lamp for a more eclectic or design-led interior.

Details

Vintage African table lamp

Carved rosewood construction

Sculptural grazing antelope design

Hand-carved detailing

Tall swept-back horns

Dark, richly figured timber

Textured carved ground

Mounted on an oval wooden plinth

Vintage Bakelite-style switched bulb holder

Mid-century decorative design

African folk art influence

Sculptural statement lighting

Likely circa 1960s–70s

Supplied with existing wiring as pictured

Dimensions

Measurements available on request.
