Collection: Chairs

Shop original midcentury chairs, dining sets and lounge seating, running from 1940s oak through to 1970s chrome and fibreglass. Teak is the most common timber here, with beech, rosewood and chrome close behind.

You will find Ercol, Robin Day and Heals among them, alongside Danish designs brought into Britain by the same importers. Prices start at £85 for a single hall chair and reach £3,750 for a real investment piece, with most around £400. Sets of four and six come up often and tend to go quickly.

The joint where the backrest meets the uprights is always worth a look on a chair of this age. The better British and Danish makers used exposed dowels or finger joints there, which is both good engineering and rather lovely to look at. Every chair is a genuine one-off, picked up personally.

Furniture delivery is £70 flat anywhere in the UK, and collection from West Yorkshire is welcome.
