Description

A wonderfully unusual pair of vintage 1990s church pew-style benches, comprising one larger bench and one smaller companion bench, finished in crisp white with colourful geometric upholstered seat cushions.

These have a distinctive postmodern look, combining traditional chapel and church pew proportions with a much more playful late-20th-century construction. The tall panelled backs feature vertical detailing, while the broad slab-style sides and gently shaped lower edges give the benches a particularly graphic architectural appearance.

Both retain their fitted seat cushions, upholstered in a colourful repeating geometric triangle fabric with shades of red, green, mustard, blue, black and cream. Against the white frames, the fabric gives the pair a brilliant 1990s Memphis / postmodern feel.

The different widths make them especially useful together: the larger example works well as a compact two-seater bench, while the smaller version makes an unusual single-seat chair or hallway bench.

Condition

Good vintage condition with signs of previous use consistent with age.

There are various small marks, scuffs and areas of wear to the white finish, along with visible fixing holes to the sides from their previous installation or configuration. Some exposed edges to the rear show the underlying material.

The colourful upholstered cushions remain present on both pieces and display well overall. Please refer closely to the photographs for the most accurate representation of condition.
