A charming and highly decorative antique Japanese carved side table, commissioned by Liberty & Co and dating to circa 1900. This elegant two-tier table features beautifully hand-carved sunflower motifs to both the top and lower shelf, a design strongly associated with the Arts & Crafts movement and Liberty’s celebrated “Eastern Bazaar” range.

Crafted in Japan exclusively for Liberty & Co during the height of the Anglo-Japanese aesthetic, these tables were produced in numbered sections for ease of transport before being assembled at Liberty’s Regent Street premises in London. The result is a distinctive fusion of Japanese craftsmanship and British Arts & Crafts design.

With its rich colour, expressive carving, and graceful proportions, this piece works equally well as a lamp table, occasional table, or plant stand.
