A sculptural carved rosewood table lamp formed as a grazing antelope with swept-back horns, mounted on an oval timber plinth.

wonderfully characterful vintage African carved rosewood table lamp, formed as a stylised grazing antelope with tall swept-back horns.

Hand-carved from richly toned dark wood, the antelope stands upon a textured carved ground before being mounted to an oval timber plinth. The lamp fitting rises discreetly from the animal’s back, allowing the carving itself to remain the dominant feature of the design.

The antelope has a particularly elegant silhouette, with elongated legs, exaggerated horns and simplified geometric detailing typical of mid-century African decorative carving. The deep rosewood tones and visible grain give the piece warmth and depth, while the sculptural form means it works just as effectively as a decorative object when unlit.

An unusual combination of African folk art, mid-century lighting and hand-carved sculpture, and a great statement lamp for a more eclectic or design-led interior.
