characterful vintage portrait painting depicting a smiling Papuan Highlander wearing a red headband, beaded necklaces and traditional body adornment.

Painted against a deep black background, the sitter’s expressive face is brought forward through warm earthy tones and finely observed detailing. The relaxed expression gives the portrait a particularly engaging quality, while the red accents add depth and contrast to the composition.

Presented in its original period frame with a wide woven hessian surround and dark painted edging, the piece has a strong 1960s–1970s decorative aesthetic.
