A wonderfully characterful 1950s industrial wooden storage crate, retaining its original Liverpool stencilling and heavily reinforced metal edging.

Constructed from timber with a substantial box-form design, the crate features riveted metal reinforcement running around the edges, including an attractive scalloped metal border across the front. The original surface has been left largely untouched, preserving decades of knocks, scratches, markings and patina.

The front is prominently stencilled “D.U”, “LIVERPOOL” and “No. 49”, alongside further partially faded numbering. These surviving markings give the piece a particularly strong industrial and utilitarian character.

Now removed from its original working context, it makes an unusual and highly practical piece of vintage furniture. Its generous internal compartment makes it ideal as a blanket box, toy chest, log store, general storage trunk or decorative industrial feature.

A genuine statement piece where the wear and history are very much part of the appeal.
