A wonderfully decorative antique Chinoiserie black lacquer jewellery chest, richly decorated with hand-painted gilt scenes, floral motifs, landscapes and traditional East Asian-inspired imagery.

The architectural form has a shaped raised lid, decorative bracket feet and ornate metal drop handles. Two smaller drawers sit above a larger full-width drawer, while the hinged upper section opens to further storage. Inside is a removable fitted jewellery tray with multiple divisions and smaller compartments.

Condition

Good antique condition with significant age-related patina and wear. There is rubbing and loss to areas of black lacquer and gilt decoration, particularly around edges, corners and feet, plus scratches, marks and general surface wear. The interior also shows previous use. The timeworn finish has deliberately not been over-restored.
